Early Winter Newsletter 2014 Manager’s Musings Here we - TopicsExpress

Early Winter Newsletter 2014 Manager’s Musings Here we are in early December, and we have already survived our first scare of winter. But that has melted off, giving us a little opportunity to gather the rakes and garden tools, store them away, and get out the dreaded snow shovels. It has been a fine year for the Club. Our goal was to welcome 100 new members in our 100th year, and I am pleased to report that we have surpassed that number. We now have more than 300 members. Many other social clubs are suffering at this time, primarily because they will not adapt. Many thanks to everyone who has contributed to our success: members who book the Club for their functions, others who use the Club, members who help keep the Club in good order, staff, and our Board of Directors. New Year’s Eve Please consider joining us on New Year’s Eve for the evening. Dress is “Smart Casual”. (Check with Tom Lafferty on that score). The activities begin at 9:00pm. No formal dinner, just great tunes and good times. Complimentary champagne and pizza at midnight. Book a table! Dance your way into 2015. Turkey Bingo-Monday, December 15th If you have never been to a turkey bingo, come and see us that evening! It is a great cause, as all proceeds go to the Christmas Sharing Program. It is always well attended, and a good idea to book a table in advance. Doors open at 6:45pm, and the first ball comes out of the drum at 7:15pm. Lots of great prizes. Fun for the entire family. Super Sports Draw Night- January 6th Help us complete our draw activities by attending the draw night at the Club. To date, we have sold 600 of the available tickets (1000). I am certain they will be gone by January 6th. There will be lots of action that evening: autographed jerseys on the silent auction block-Andrew Shaw, Doug Gilmour, and one from Club Member Brad Richardson. Starting time 7:00pm. Many thanks! A special thanks to Marilyn and Armin Quickert for the art work now on display between the second and third floors. Fine stuff! We do have room for a few more large paintings, and a carpet or two if you have those to spare! In Memoriam-Doug Boyle The Club hosted a Celebration of Life recently for the family and friends of Doug Boyle, Club Member for many years. Doug loved the Club, and often entertained us at lunch on Fridays. Several years ago, he told me that his father, in his advanced years, played a hand of bridge at the Club, bid and made seven no trump, doubled, redoubled and vulnerable. When he placed his last card on the table, he suffered a fatal heart attack. Sort of the epitome of contract bridge. Membership James Wessel, Amanda Downey, Heather Plane, Nick Reed, Mitchell Coffin, Michelle Meilleur, Tom James, David Brown, Greg Leal, Michael Rush, Ray Goulet, Glenn Lidstone, Lenore Begley, Keith Comstive, Alex Nastatos, Jim Leighton, Susan Nurse, Richard Noel. A special thank you to Jean Marc and his staff from L’Auberge for providing the fine treats. We will be using another of the area’s fine dining caterers after the New Year. We had several caterers at the Club this past summer, with great success. Spring Stag-Thursday, May 7, 2015 Tickets will be available at the beginning of April. Always great food and a good time for everyone. Scotch Tasting The Robbie Burns Night of scotch tasting is slated for January 22nd. Call Karen Palmer at 613-391-9291 to book your place at the table. Email: kmpalmer@gmail. Staff Gratuity There is a separate mailing with this newsletter from our president regarding staff gratuities. An envelope is enclosed for your convenience. It might also be used to pay outstanding balances. We would appreciate your attention in this regard, as they are currently a little over $ 24 000. Two birds with one stone, as they say! Have a Fine Holiday! No matter where you are, or where you will find yourself, have a great holiday! Hope to see you soon!!
