Early holiday morning permie musings....Gosh....will someone help me to feel better about being solicited by fellow permies? I know we live in a money driven economy. I get that. And that information is money. But, as I strive to live a minimalist and sustainable life, and as a public librarian, I have found that I can do permaculture without spending money (accept on tools and seeds!). I didnt come to permaculture to generate money for myself...but only to try to live more sustainably and maybe help the world be a better place. I actually dislike relating permaculture to money in my mind, because it taints it for me, so I strive to keep it separate. If I need information, I order books from the library for free. I believe in that system. Librarians share knowledge freely. I have never taken a PDC because there has been no need in our information age. I have a desire to connect with other permies to openly share knowledge, as we do at the library. So, I love this group because we can share knowledge freely, and Im hopeful about the new Denver meetings for networking reasons (and for the open sharing of knowledge). Maybe we should start a permie research center so we can share this information, for free, to all, and with free workshops? No information barriers for anyone. I also dont pay for local workshops, but i would willing trade services (my time and labor) or food that I have created. For instance, I cant afford $60 for a workshop on greywater implementation...I would be lucky to be able to afford the tools to implement that. I consider myself fairly intellectual, but I find I cant understand some of these topics that are discussed by permies online, and some of the economic articles that are progressive are so dense and intellectual that my tired brain cant comprehend the point of the author. Some permies are very philosophical and use sophisticated language that goes over my head.
