Early on when Rebecca and I arrived to the Washington, DC area (back in 1990), a friend invited me on a saturday tour of the city. I did not know the nature of the tour- that it was hosted by a christian tour agency nor that the tour would focus on the faith of our Founding Fathers. But it did. Story after story was relayed by our tour guide- all fueled by the narrative that those who founded the United States were proper Christians in every way. Admittedly, it was a very uneasy day for me. I knew that this narrative was little more than a rewriting of American history (see the article below). Twenty-four years later, I still see those same tour buses making their weekly rounds in our capital city with their tour guides squawking into microphones (though it is looking like the D.C. Duck Boat Tours may be cutting into their business a bit).
