Earning a Guinness World Record title last year for using more than 500,000 Christmas lights at his home in Australia, barrister David Richards decided to spare his family and neighborhood the traffic issues this year and try to beat the record in the country’s capital. Fox News reports that the strings of lights for this year’s display measure about 75 miles, or 120 kilometers. Electricity for the display is being donated by a local energy company. The Canberra Christmas light display is a record-beating, 1.2 million light show for the public to enjoy free of charge through New Year’s Eve. Visitors are encouraged to make donations to the SIDS and Kids ACT charity. Richards hopes the larger display will increase the size of donations to the organization.
