Earth Abides follow up. While it was primarily a human centred story, a few things did annoy me. The power grid staying up as long as it did for one. Im pretty sure it would go down within days without human maintenance. The plumbing was even worse, it lasted for years, when in fact the little reservoir it was drawing from would have been drained within weeks, maybe a few months at most. And then the gasoline being useful decades after it was made, I dont think so. Lastly, the fires. I think its safe to say that all of Californias urban areas would have burned in the first summer or two. In this case though, maybe if their little settlement got lucky in the first few years, it would have been surrounded by burned areas and been relatively safe for decades. All minor details though, just fun to think about what would happen if humans were suddenly gone.
