Easing weather conditions this evening have helped NSW Rural Fire - TopicsExpress

Easing weather conditions this evening have helped NSW Rural Fire Service crews gain the upper hand on the bush and grass fires currently burning across the State. Tonight there are more than 300 NSW RFS volunteers working on 89 fires across NSW. All fires are at Advice level, including the fire at Collombatti, near Kempsey, which forced the closure of the Pacific Highway this afternoon. NSW Police are tonight providing escorts to motorists wishing to travel on the Pacific Highway near Halfway Creek, south east of Grafton, because of reduced visibility due to smoke from a fire. Motorists should consider using the New England Highway as an alternate route. Weather conditions are expected to continue to ease on Saturday.
