Easter Seasons is coming. Its a big holiday in Belize, but the reason for its notoriety seems a little confused. I have seen commercials of all the hottest beach party, and artist...but not one commercial talking about the celebration of the death and resurrection of Saviour. No I am not asking for traditional religion, I am asking for a deep sense of spirituality of what the cross means for you. A deep meditation and reflection on how this has impact your life personally. Dont look around on the other person. This is not the period for you to condemn or judge anyone else, but for you to reflect on what it all means and whether or not I am living the purpose God has created for me. Or is it that Jesus and the cross is reserved for times of distress. Let me repeat, I am not asking whether you are a devout Catholic, Pentecostal, Heathen. I am asking as an individual, especially those of us who know we are sinners...to seek the face of Jesus with all heart. but where did the term Eastercome from. for there is nothing in the Bible that actually uses it. The origins of the word Easter are not certain, but probably derive from Estre, an Anglo-Saxon goddess (goddess were a sinful source - For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites 1 Kings 11:15) of spring. The German word Ostern has the same derivation, but most other languages follow the Greek term used by the early Christians: pascha, from the Hebrew pesach (Passover). In Latin, Easter is Festa Paschalia (plural because it is a seven-day feast), which became the basis for the French Pâques, the Italian Pasqua, and the Spanish Pascua. I will not spend time about how the dates were figured because by its mere definition it can be concluded that the name itself was concocted by denominations, no matter who was in the lead. But in my opinion it represents a commercialization of what the Resurrection truly is. And in fact this is being widely demonstrated as we speak in most societies. What does Easter eggs have to do with it? What do eggs have to do with Easter? Over the centuries, Easter Sunday has been supplemented by popular customs, many of were incorporated from springtime fertility celebrations of European and Middle Eastern pagan religion. Rabbits and eggs, for example, are widely-used pagan symbols for fertility. Some Christians disassociate themselves entirely from Easter eggs because of their pagan connotations. Other Christians view Easter eggs, or other candies and treats, as symbols of joy and celebration (as they were forbidden during the fast of Lent) and as a taste of new life and resurrection that they have in Jesus Christ. A common custom is to hide brightly colored eggs for children to find. My plight here today is not to judge anyone, but I reiterate, we live in a hurt world. We have tried things our own way and everything man puts its hands to has been destroyed. God waits on His mercy seat to hear us cry out so He can save us and love us more. Evaluate your selves. Its nice to go to the beach and have a great family time. But do not forget that Resurrection weekend, is about the Great High Priest, who is no longer dead, and has bought our pardon. Thats worthy of honour and glory!
