Eastwood are the first team to book their place in the 2014 Magners Shute Shield Grand Final at the expense of minor premiers Manly in a classic encounter. The game was a cagey affair throughout with both sides letting nerves come the better of them in the first ten minutes, knocking on and throwing away simple set pieces. The first attempt for points came after 13 minutes but Dane Chisholms penalty attempt was wide, the winger redeemed himself 3 minutes later with a successful kick from the same spot. The Woodies however took the front foot and a breakaway from Hugh Perrett saw his side run the length and scrum half Mick Snowden score under the posts. With the wind in their sails Eastwood pressed and Tom Hill stepped around a tackle to score the woodies second and kick the game into life. The TMO ruled out a Manly try in the corner and two minutes later Eastwood had their third, once again running the length and Michael McDougall latching onto a clever kick. The Marlins however stuck back and Mali Hingano crossed and was shortly after sinbinned for a dangerous tackle. However being down to 14 didnt worry the minor premiers too much and Dane Chisolm added 10 points at the start of the second half, one penalty and a intercept try from his own 22 which he then converted. However the running rugby seemed to stop there with both sides employing kicking tactics as they game drew to an end with just five points the difference. The introduction of Matt Lucas gave Manly a much needed boost of energy and with eight minutes remaining they opted to kick to the corner, turning down an easy shot at goal. This was a decision they would ultimately regret as the ball was turned over and with a minute left on the lock Eastwoods forwards rumbled over to secure the victory. Eastwood will now face the winner of Sydney University v Southern Districts who play tomorrow. The Grand Final will be contested at Concord Oval next Saturday. Eastwood 32 (Mick Snowden, Tom Hill, Michael McDougall, Guy Millar tries. Ben Batger 2 conversions 2 penalties. Tom Hill conversion) d Manly 20 (Mali Hingano, Dane Chisholm tries. Dane Chisholm 2 conversions 2 penalties)
