Eating right when pregnant Now, Im used to lecturing people on what best to eat to stay in optimum shape...however being pregnant has been a whole different story for me! I have trained myself to earn my carbs, and to only eat starches after training to replace glycogen levels...however when you are pregnant your body and your growing buba is the only thing in control. You can do your best to curb cravings, and eat the same diet, but ultimately the body and the baby gets what it wants lol! So, advice to anyone who is pregnant for the first time is to listen to your body. If you are craving carbs, eat them! However try and make wiser choices. Below I have listed my survival guide: 1. Eat sweet potato instead of white potatoes 2. Do not fill yourself up on bread. Although not a massive fan prior to pregnancy for the grain reason, I find corn cakes, and rice cakes are great for curbing bread cravings 3. Always add protein to your carbs to slow down the insulin response 4. Fancy something sweet. I am allowing myself 1-2 deserts admittedly a week...if I fancy a sweet treat during the week I make a banana or raspberry smoothie, preferably after training Banana and Peanut butter smoothie x1 banana frozen throw in blender add x1 tbsp of homemade peanut butter add x1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon add a splash of organic full fat milk / goats milk / almond milk blend This makes an amazing thick smoothie...its like ice cream Raspberry Smoothie 100g frozen raspberries 100g Full Cream Greek Yoghurt x1 tbsp of homemade almond nut butter Blend Yummy! Thats it for today. More hints and tips to keep you in shape whilst being pregnant tomorrow xx
