Ebola Fall out! In order to safe guard its citizens and persons living in the region, most of the Caribbean countries including Grenada has instituted a travel ban of persons form Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia with immediate effect. Persons traveling from these countries will be denied entry into the islands. For citizens of Nigeria or persons traveling from Nigeria, they have to provide a current medical certificate duly recognized stating that they are not infected with Ebola. Additionally, entry visas which were hitherto issued at the port of entry on arrival from Europe or US must be procured by persons before traveling especially to Grenada and St. Lucia. These steps have been taken in order to reduce the chances of the virus coming into the region, Meanwhile, the US department of state has issued a traveling warning to its Nationals against non essential travels to Liberia, Sierra Leone and Liberia. A level 2 alert have also been placed on Nigeria by the CDC but no travel warning. Nigeria remains a success story on how to handle Ebola. The response of the Nigeria health system and the manner in which the few recorded cases were handled have been cited in various high level meetings on Ebola. I pray and hope that persons living in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone will jettison superstition, disbelief and negative burial culture and adopt the basic principles and strategies of fighting infectious disease. Disbelief and superstition have largely affected the fight against Ebola in these countries with a large number of people still living in denial. May God help us to overcome.
