Ebola Survival Diary Entry 2 - Senegal has successfully treated - TopicsExpress

Ebola Survival Diary Entry 2 - Senegal has successfully treated its one and only documented Ebola patient - Im very happy for the medical community here in Dakar. Unfortunately, other countries have not been as fortunate...... The international community continues to stumble to put together a decisive and unified plan to help African countries contain the disease. Then there are ex patriots airlifted home to receive treatment equivalent to a cure, a cure that is not readily accessible to Africans living in this region. My mind cant help but wonder if the reverse were true. If the treatment/cure was here on African soil and the epidemic was breaking out in a first world country. If so, the deal would have been closed months ago, and there would be Africans working for a couple dollars a day to extract the cure and ship it overseas, likely for a huge profit for foreign companies. Then if it were withheld for any reason by an African country, what would the reaction of the international community be? Honestly? This gross double standard is the basis of racial inequality and injustice. The real sickness is in the selfish nature of humanitys collective consciousness - we can not divide or devalue human life regardless of the section of the earth that life resides or for the hues in which it is presented. The fact that men women and children can literally be crying tears of blood as they fight for their lives is devastating. I continue to pray for those fighting to survive and pray that we all seek to end injustice the world over, especially when it exists in our own collective hearts......... Amen
