Ebola induced-AIDS in Sierra Leone. The unprecedented Ebola - TopicsExpress

Ebola induced-AIDS in Sierra Leone. The unprecedented Ebola outbreak has induced what I referred to Acquired Income Deficient Syndrome (AIDS) as a result of the financial hardship it creates for many, from civil servants to the ordinary men and women in the street. Prior to the Ebola outbreak, the cost of movements via okada was one source of expenditure for the majority. It is an indisputable fact that this mode of transportation facilitate social intercourse, connecting villages and towns across the country. This has however, impose economic difficulties for poor users following the contraction of the economy and loss of jobs and businesses due to the outbreak. The lock down of Tonkolili district with a ban on okada services is bringing some financial relief to many. Most of the people I interviewed recognized the inconvenience of trekking around the Magburaka township but equally acknowledged the savings they have made in the two weeks lockdown due to end on the 15th Dec. The reduction in the number of Ebola cases since the lock down is well received by the locals; kudos to the stakeholders in the districts: the Paramount chiefs, the MPs, the Ministers, the council and the DHMT. One can deduced thus that, okada usage and mobile telecommunications are contributing significantly to the tin tranga outcries in Sierra Leone. @ALHASSAN FOUARD KANU IN MAGBURKA
