Ebola outbreak scares Thai rice exporters to Africa Vichai Sriprasert, President, Thai Rice Exporters Association, said it was now very difficult to find cargo ships to transport rice to Africa due to Ebola pandemic in some West African countries. He said rice exporters in Thailand fear that the Ebola pandemic would negatively affect rice prices as ships refuse to sail to ports in the afflicted countries. Sriprasert, who spoke in Bangkok on Monday, added that Ebola outbreak in Sub-Saharan Africa was making its presence felt among Thai rice exporters. Sriprasert said exporters were afraid that the outbreak could put pressure on rice prices. He said Africa was one of the key destinations for Thai rice exports with over 3.75 million tonnes shipped to the continent last year.
