Ebonyi 2015 Guber: Yuletide Negotiations Strengthen Deputy Governor, Umahi Abakaliki Consultations and re-alignments during the 2014 yuletide may have engaged the permutations of the governorship race in Ebonyi state to the favour of the incumbent deputy governor, Engineer Dave Umahi. Aside the series of declaration of support for the candidature of Umahi, the standard bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), his appearance at the state house of assembly, weekend, with governor Martin Elechi on the occasion of the presentation of the 2015 appropriation bill was an indication that the duo were coming to terms with the realities of the current political state of affairs. The governor and his deputy were believed to have lost faces to the point that the 24-member house of assembly was also divided along that line until the last week event where the two had to align and bring the lawmakers together as to make it possible for presentation of the appropriation bill. Meanwhile the Labour Party (LP) touted to have the blessing of the governor tends to have been embattled with setbacks as neither the governor nor his allies have laid open support to them, a development that has given edge to the ruling PDP in the state and her candidates for the elections slated for 2015. Meanwhile, a coalition of Ebonyi State PDP candidates for the 2015 general election has described Elechi’s position tht Ebonyi people should vote for President Goodluck Jonathan and any other persons of their choice as an act of sabotage and unbridled ingratitude; having served as a two-term governor on the platform of the PDP. According to them, governor Elechis perceived support for his in-law, Chief Edward Nkwegu from Ebonyi North senatorial district to run as the LP gubernatorial candidate was a reflection of his insincerity to the zoning of the governorship position to the Southern political bloc of the state. In a statement authored by 33 candidates of the PDP including Ex-Governor Sam Egwu, Senator Sonni Ogbuoji, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Chukwuma Nwazunku, Hon. Sylvester Ogbaga among others, the candidates recalled that under Governor Elechis watch many PDP faithful had been aggrieved on the account of his self-imposing leadership style. Governor Elechi had however said he remains a PDP member. Ends
