Ebonyi PDP chieftain faults Gov. Elechi on NIGERCEM Former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, Hon. Obinna Ogba, yesterday, accused Governor Martin Elechi of frustrating the re-activation of NIGERCEM cement industry by Ibeto group. Hon. Ogba, who is also the senatorial candidate of the party in the state, made this known while briefing journalists in Abakaliki, the state capital. The PDP chieftain, however, warned that any attempt by the governor or any other person to disrupt the re-activation of the cement company would be resisted by the Nkalagu community. The PDP senatorial candidate and the leader of Nkalagu community, however, exonerated the Ibeto Group over allegation that Ibeto entered into NIGERCEM illegally. Said he, What does Governor Elechi gain in frustrating business in NIGERCEM? Since he came into power with few months to the completion of his eight years administration, no meaningful achievement was recorded in the area of industrialization. Not a mini or major industry was build, rather he is busy frustrating the existing ones. The company that was once the pride of Igbo people and has put food on the table of many Igbos cut across the five states in the South-East zone suffered setback because of Elechis resistance for its development. Do you know how many people that have suffered since the collapsed of Nigercem as a result of Elechis ill personal interest, we are saying enough is enough. He noted that NIGERCEM used to have best hospital in the Eastern part of the country way back. He also explained that since the collapse of the company, many pregnant women in the area have been made to travel far for medical attention. He also bemoaned lack of a functional Health Centre in the area. Hon. Ogba challenged Governor Elechi to produce any evidence or Court Order that restrained Ibeto from entering into NIGERCEM saying, All the landlords, communities and the entire clan in Nkalagu have said no to Governor Elechis unrepentant stand on Nigercem just as they declared total support for Ibeto Group in their quest to reactivate the company. The Ebonyi PDP chieftain, however, accused governor Elechi of dumping the PDP. He continued. Elechi has abandoned the PDP that gave him ticket to become the Governor of Ebonyi State for the past eight years in office, adding that He is now using Ebonyi state government money to fund labour party, LP he stressed. Governor Elechi through the Chief Press Secretry, Dr Onyekachi Eni, had earlier accused Ibeto group of entering into NIGERCEM illegally, stressing that the state government had earlier revoked the certificate of occupancy of Bulkcem cement industry and other companies that shares on NIGERCEM.
