Echoing the major takeaway from our Medicare Advantage Money Grab investigation earlier this summer, the Department of Health and Human Services released a study confirming the popular, privately run arm of Medicare does, in fact, grab quite a bit of money. Using government data that has never been made available to the public, researchers found the cost of Medicare Advantage plans has for years outpaced what regular Medicare costs. And even though the overall tab for Medicare Advantage is expected to be about $160 billion this year, the study was posted rather quietly last month to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services website. A Medicare billing expert told us, “This is clearly impacting what taxpayers are paying for Medicare Advantage, I think, not in a good way.”
