Eco-Hut in Lonavala (Maharashtra): Tata Power has showcased its first model, a carbon neutral self-powered Eco-Hut in Walwhan Garden, Lonavala in Maharashtra. Company has invested Rs 10,00,000 in the setting up of the Eco-Hut. The hut is said to emit zero carbon footprint, which is commendable in comparison to the modern house that emits 4.2 tonnes of carbon dioxide. It took 20 days to construct the Eco-Hut. The Eco-Hut is an example of how modern technology can be used for a better and healthier environment. The hut receives its lighting through solar panels and a windmill. Moreover, it uses energy saving devices such as LEDs, toilet flush with lowest discharge, underground energy free natural earthen refrigerator and drip/sprinkle irrigation for plants. The Eco-Hut relies on rain water for its water supply. The hut does not receive water supply from other sources such as the city’s supply system and other private sources. The Eco-Hut consumes 100 litres of water as compared to 400 litres by a modern house of 600 square feet. It also recycles and reuses domestic solid waste.
