If you want you will release butterfly with your own hand.The garden had started in the month of December, 2013. After the first two months its management control was given to Nature Mates-Nature Club, who are expert in the field of butterfly study and butterfly gardening after they took over the project since march;2014. A reasonable improvement is seem .butterfly gardening is not an easy took .one have to wait for the natural process is through which the butterfly pass through its different life stages time and patience and dependence on natural process the key to establish one functioning butterfly garden. To boost the butterfly population within the cage a butterfly rearing lab was established. In the lab larvae are reared till it emerges as butterfly from the pupa. Larvae are collected from the entire Eco park area at present. Once they emerge as butterfly some are released in the open area and the majority within the cage. Butterflies are entirely plant dependent animals. To complete their life cycle and to navigate their energy need, they are almost entirely dependent on plants. So within the cage and in the outside plantation was done keeping in mind the need of butterflies. Initially we are focused in those butterflies which are commonly found in Kolkata. May be in future we will try for some species which are not found in Kolkata but can be adapted here. Some statistics: Presently we have released 1731 number of butterflies at the Butterfly garden area. The number of butterfly species which are found in the garden is around 32 till now. Since we started butterfly release programme during 15th June, 2014, more than 100 people have taken part in it. Average visitor per day on week days is about 30 visitors where as in holidays it is around 500 visitors. Guided tours are organized within the dome cage on every working day. With more than 20 informative boards a well decorated Interpretation centre is there to enlighten the visitors with about various aspects of butterflies and about various butterflies found in India. This Butterfly Garden is the first of its kind in Eastern India and with time and funding it has the potential to become the best Butterfly Garden in India.
