Ecological catastrophes. Changing weather patterns. Changing - TopicsExpress

Ecological catastrophes. Changing weather patterns. Changing climate. Who cares? I dont mean that in a facetious manner either. We are dealing with symptoms of population growth, and it appears the vast majority of humanity is still in denial about this. The spread of villages, towns and cities; the spread of agricultural needs; the razing of forests to make room for farm land, building materials, infrastructure and housing; the increase in domesticated animals for consumption; the mining for the manufacture of consumption goods; land conversion from nature to garbage dumps. If population does not shrink - and with it, consumption -, nothing else matters. And for that to happen, there has to be a massive change in peoples thinking in respect to reproduction... or perhaps for the first time in history, humans would have to actually start thinking about how many humans are actually sustainable. Past decisions cannot be undone, but people who plan on reproducing by a factor of more than 0.5 should stop hand-wringing and start looking in the mirror for that part of changing climate that is attributable to human activities. Ultimately everything comes down to how many humans with voracious appetite for consumption there are.
