Economics, Service Members and You Col. Bruce Bowers, commander - TopicsExpress

Economics, Service Members and You Col. Bruce Bowers, commander of the Air Force’s 446th Airlift Wing (Reserve), Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM), is a humorous man. “I’m in over my head,” he said with a laugh in talking about his job to a well-attended Chamber of Commerce Military Affair’s Meeting at Burs Restaurant this past Tuesday morning. Nothing could be further from the truth – this man is as clear as a bell on a cold morning in his thinking. Bowers clearly understands the connection between Lakewood and Joint Base Lewis-McChord. More to the point, he understands the symbiotic relationship – the military is an economic asset to the city; the city is home to many active duty, reserve and Guard personnel. His comments underscore the reason why I have placed economic development and redevelopment as my primary goals if elected to the city council. With a vibrant business community comes the opportunity to maintain and continue the relationship Lakewood enjoys with Joint Base Lewis-McChord. My experiences working with budgets as an operations officer in the Air Force Reserve and as a member of the Pierce College Cabinet have provided me with the experience to work well on furthering the city’s growth. Furthermore, my service on the City’s Redevelopment Advisory Board has deepened and broadened my ability to work with businesses in creating a better economy in Lakewood. As your elected council member, I will work toward this goal.
