Ed Stetzer is a biblical scholar and churchman. He writes that in years to come, Christianity will cost more and will be less and less tolerated in a secular society. He says there are three kinds of Christians: Cultural Christians, Congregational Christians, and Conviction Christians. The first two groups do not have the spiritual and intellectual rigor to withstand the tides, and will gradually disappear. The Conviction Christian will increasingly be the only Christian of the future. In the short term, Stetzer writes, Christians will either become a cultural church that allows the societal trends to dictate their ever-changing beliefs. Or they will become a counter-cultural church that faithfully adheres to Scripture and proclaims the gospel in a carefully considered way. The latter church will offer real hope in the midst of an adversarial culture and is the only real future for the American church. Hat Tip: Ardel Caneday
