Edath Feston, shared this story with me about the time when the power went out in her home. It was Columbus Day, 1962. Do you have a great memory of a time when the power went out at your house? We didnt know the storm was coming until that day. I was in the third grade and walked home early with the other kids in my neighborhood. The wind howled and the 50ft pine tree in our front yard was bending dangerously toward our roof. We were all scared, but maybe I was the most scared. I was only 8. At my request, we all gathered in a circle in the kitchen opposite the tree side of the house and prayed. We heard a huge crack before we were finished and ran to look out the window. The top of the tree had broken off and flew down the street, the opposite way it had been bending before. Weird, huh? Anyway, power was out for about a week after the storm. Momma cooked on a camp stove and for fun we put together a thousand piece jigsaw puzzle on the dining room table by oil lamp light every evening. This is one of my clearest memories of childhood. Hows that for a story. lol
