Eddie Ricers!! Interesting Community Event we would be happy to promote within our Network. Launched in Sydney in 2013 by joiningthedots founder Penny Elsley, The Welcome Dinner Project aims to create a platform for meaningful connection, sparking friendships between people of diverse cultures and encouraging local collaborative endeavours. People register to take part in a Welcome Dinner via the joiningthedots.org website, indicating whether they would like to be a host or simply be a participant. They are then matched to form groups, with half the attendees being newly arrived people and half established Australians. Newly arrived people include refugees, asylum seekers, migrants and international students who have arrived in the past 10 years. Trained facilitators co-ordinate the dinner and support everyone on the night. The dinners take place at the home of the host, and everyone brings a dish representing their culture (pot-luck style!).
