Eddie Sauter and Bill Finegan assembled a “dance band” in the - TopicsExpress

Eddie Sauter and Bill Finegan assembled a “dance band” in the early 1950s called Sauter-Finegan Orchestra. While their music is perfectly arranged, phenomenally gorgeous, and played by first rate musicians, it wasn’t all that danceable. This led to not much success and they were forced to dis-band in 1955. Other than their quirky style, interesting selection of instruments, and wonderful sound, I like they way they treat jazz like classical music, and their treatment of classical music is unique among other jazz arranger’s treatments of classical music. Sauter-Finegan Orchestra is in a class, all by itself. Just my kind of thing! It’s hard to find good quality recordings of Sauter-Finegan Orchestra. However, the iTunes store has a great copy of their greatest hits. My weekly musical selection is Sauter Finegan Orchestras, Clarinet À La Mode. https://youtube/watch?v=XXrwADvZWrU
