Edgar Lungu Falls Back on His Word over Luangwa Airstrip The Zambian government has fallen back on their word that they did not about the existence of the privately operated Kamowa Airstrip in Luangwa District of Eastern Province. Defence Minister Edgar Lungu who last month cried foul about a foreign national operating an airstrip without the knowledge of government has turned around to claim the existence of the airstrip was known but that the licence had expired. Lungu, who had promised heavy punishment, has gone soft and said government knew about the airstrip but contested the ownership that was in private hands with a Mozambican national allegedly at the helm. He said the airstrip should be handed over to the Luangwa District Council who he advised to seek a licence under Civil Aviation Authority. Lungu said the airstrip had been operating normally until 2011 when the licence expired. Locals are said to have mobilized themselves to keep the airstrip running. zambiareports/2014/05/07/edgar-lungu-falls-back-word-luangwa-airstrip/
