Edgartown came sharply to life on Passover / Easter weekend. - TopicsExpress

Edgartown came sharply to life on Passover / Easter weekend. Saturday was sunny and warm with a soft and lovely breeze ruffling the surface of the harbor. Today, Sunday, was nearly as mild, and you could easily make the claim that the 2014 season officially began yesterday and today. Groups strolled across the town in jackets and sweatshirts. The door was open at the Ice Cream and Candy Bazaar on Dock Street, though that was just to let in the fresh air while they spruced up the place for opening day, probably a weekend or two from now. Among the Flowers Cafe began serving customers over on Mayhew Lane, and Soft As A Grape Marthas Vineyard, always an early returnee, was enjoying its third or fourth weekend in business (quick little plug: the Soft As A Grape Marthas Vineyard website has a page dedicated exclusively to Chappy ferry gear). And Captain Becca Hamilton reports that after one oclock on Saturday, both ferries had to run most of the afternoon because in town the car line extended all the way up Daggett Street. Seasonal residents were moving in on Chappy and visitors felt inspired to ramble across the trails and beaches of the inviting little island across the harbor. We hear tell of people who were walking the shoreline barefoot! And to think that four mornings ago, there was enough sleet and snow to dust the lawns and shorelines with a coating that looked like confectioners sugar. (Yep, were going to keep taking note of these transitions to spring. If went through the winter of 2013-2014 with us, you know why!)
