Edinboro Ski Area Opens After weeks of anticipation, Mount Pleasant ski resort in Edinboro opened on Friday evening. Super excited, Im pumped, said Elizabeth Vincent, 14, from Albion. Ive been waiting for this all year, said Addie Hahn, a student nearby from Cambridge Springs. Its our first day, so all the kids are going crazy. Were very excited, said Laura Sinsabaugh, a co-owner of Mount Pleasant. Opening day draws nearly 1,000 guests and for the first time, they all got to use the resorts newest upgrade: chair lifts. The old lifts were t-bar style and pushed skiers up the hill. It felt like, really dangerous, said Sydney Farbotnik, 10, from Edinboro. They were very uncomfortable, Vincent said. It was kind of scary before, it was harder to learn how to ski on them. Just more difficult, said Aida Shadeck, 13, from Cambridge Springs. So while some were excited for the 20-or-so inches of fresh powder covering Mount Pleasant, others were more excited for the new lifts, which can move 1,400 people per hour. The chair lifts cost about a half million dollars and even took construction over the summer to get it done in time for opening day. Skiers say its a welcome addition. Theyre awesome. They were so uncomfortable before and now you can just relax and dont have to worry about falling, said Olivia Green, 13, from Edinboro. Its exciting to see the new chair lifts. Weve been coming down all summer and watching the progress on the lifts and its been really fun, said Don Farbotnik, Sydneys dad. I like these because I can ride up with my Dad, and it doesnt make him fall over the back because hes so tall, Sydney said. These lifts are so comfortable, very cushy, very nice, Hahn said. Mount Pleasant also added another upgrade for the 2015 season: a warming shelter, now enclosed and offering refreshments. Its very quaint and warm up there, and we have marshmallows to roast up there so itll be fun, Sinsabaugh said. I love it, I love that theyve got the warming hut up top too you can stay warm whether at the top or bottom of the hill, said Nick Papalia, from Warren. The resort is located at 14510 Mount Pleasant Road Cambridge Springs, PA 16403. Hours and more information can be found at skimountpleasant.
