Edinburgh College has established the Green Transport Prize programme in partnership with SEStran, St Andrews University and Edinburgh Napier University. The competition aims to encourage innovation by offering £100,000 in prize money for the most creative green transport ideas. Six entries were shortlisted, with each finalist presenting their proposal at the first Green Transport Prize Awards Evening on 14th May 2013. The shortlisted finalists included: o Eco Transport Network : which provides lightweight electric vehicles for visitors to the Brecon Beacons in Wales; o CREST (Charlton Riverside Engineering Sustainable Transport) : a scheme to convert waste to fuel on the Thames; o Pronto Pedal Power: a scheme to transport goods around town and city centres by cargo bike. o EcoPort : which offers sustainable charging points for electric vehicles, bikes and scooters; o GridPost - A charging point system exploiting the existing street lamp network; o An urban light rail project designed by the University of Gloucestershire. Transport Minister Keith Brown, Edinburgh College Principal Mandy Exley, and SEStran Chair Russell Imrie addressed the event and Mr Imrie presented the prizes to the finalists. Runners up University of Gloucestershire and CREST received £25,000 each , while winners Eco Transport Network were presented with the first prize of £50,000.
