Edith Z Nawakwi The PF Governments Policy of using local languages as a medium of instructions in school is a pipe dream. While we totally support the use of familiar languages in learning and teaching, the fundamentals of such a policy should first be put in place. Currently Zambia has a critical shortage of instructional and literature books in local languages, we have a critical shortage of qualified local languages teachers and most importantly our local languages have no developed Orthographies to deal with technical matters. Let the government first put these fundamentals in place before rushing this policy. As things stand this policy will only hinder the proper acquisition and assimilation of knowledge by our children. It is not too late to reverse this ill-timed policy till all salient prerequisites are dealt with.
