Editorial: Conflict In PDP And Implication For 2015 In the last few weeks, there have been reports of in fighting in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) both at States and national levels. Almost about the same time, there were announcements of the suspensions of Elder Godsday Orubebe, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Governors Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State and Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State. To some pessimists, these developments, coupled with the tussle over the leadership of Nigerian Governors Forum, could narrow the chances of the PDP in retaining power in 2015 at the centre and in some states Well, what such people do not realize is that in every relationship, much more in the largest party in Africa is that conflict is natural because of diversities of interests. The question should not be why there are conflicts but whether there are internal mechanisms to creatively manage the crisis to enhance the relevance of the party for the greater good of the nation. To us, the PDP is capable of handling its currents challenges and ultimately coming out stronger and repositioned to even make incursions in some of the states considered the domain of the opposition parties. It is not the internal conflicts that will determine the future of the PDP, as no other party is immune from conflicts because of the challenges of individual differences and preferences. The ultimate determinant of where the pendulum swings in 2015 is the party’s justification of the power given to it, as according to Dag Hammarskjold, “only he deserves power who every day justifies it”. By then, it is the votes of Nigerian voters that would determine who gets what and where. Not blackmail. Not propaganda.
