Editorial Funny statement by Foreign Office The Foreign Office - TopicsExpress

Editorial Funny statement by Foreign Office The Foreign Office on Thursday condemned the US Senates report on Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) torture of detainees and said steps taken for countering terrorism must be transparent. Spokeswoman of the Foreign Office, Tasneem Aslam during the foreign office s weekly briefing in Islamabad said that US Senate Committee report re-enforced what we have said all along that international humanitarian law must be respected while encountering international terrorism. Such words coming from a Foreign Office which has no idea about its own foreign policy seems very funny. Instead of appreciating Americas political setup and the way their departments operate, the Foreign Office tried to show how strong it is while condemning and criticising America. Since last more than ten years Pakistan has been the victim of US drone attacks. Has Pakistani Foreign Office done anything else beside the condemnation statements? These condemnations have become so stale that some print media groups dont even publish such statements of Foreign Office anymore or when they do, its published on inside pages some where. It is well expected that many of the detainees who were tortured by CIA, are either from Pakistan or provided by Pakistan. What is the stance of the Foreign Office about these detainees? Are these detainees going to remain in American custody for the rest of their lives? Did all these detainees proved terrorists? Were there any innocents holed up as well? Foreign Office must answer these questions some day. When operation Zarb Azab stated, there were statements by government and the Foreign Office that international donors conference will be held in order to collect funds for the Internally/temporary Displaced Persons from the Tribal Areas. Has the Foreign Office done anything about it yet? Has a single Pakistani Ambassador anywhere in the world held a single conference about this issue of almost a million displaced persons from FATA? Instead of trying to fool the people of Pakistan, the Foreign Office should work for the betterment of the people of Pakistan. And this include those Pakistanis as well who are living abroad. Foreign Office should also avoid issuing unnecessary statements especially those statements which are meant to make us look like fools. America since long has been accused of being the largest war crimes and crimes against humanity, yet no nation has confronted it on international forum. One can only hope that the US senate takes necessary steps to stop the CIA from torturing detainees in future. If not hatred against America and its citizens will continue to grow in the Muslim countries and eventually it will bring about harm to American interests on global scale.
