Edizioni Curci, Milano, Italy, have just published a book I wrote with the Italian luthier Mario Grimaldi. The aim of such an essay, entitled "Il legno che canta" (The Singing Wood") is demostrating, upon the evidence of facts and documents, that some Italian luthiers of the first half of the 20th century, whilst adopting the Spanish plantilla (Torres-Manuel Ramirez, etc.) followed a path ot their own and created instruments whose peculiarities call for an understanding and an appreciation so far denied to them, or given in a very partial measure. edizionicurci.it/printed-music/scheda.asp?id=3193#ancora_top The names of these masters are: Luigi Mozzani, Pietro Gallinotti, Lorenzo Bellafontana, Mario Pabè, Nicola De Bonis. My book deals with the individual features of their instruments and includes a biographic profile of each of these builders. My search about them and their art does not end with he the publication of the book, this is why I am asking here (and elsewhere) whether someone in the USA has ever heard of any of them and - who knows? -dealt with one of their instruments. There are indications that a few USA guitarists inquired for a Mozzani guitar during 1937, when Andrés Segovia toured the States with playing the recitals of his whole tour with an instrument built for him by the Italian master (he selected such a guitar in the Mozzani workshop in Bologna on January 10th, 1937), and also that Nicola De Bonis guitars, built mainly in the decades 1950-1970 were delivered to USA customers. I would appreciated any information at this subject. Thankyou. Angelo Gilardino
