Edmund Fanning, a close friend of Royal Governor Tryon, was a symbol of corruption to the Regulators. Things became so heated between the Regulators and Fanning that in 1770 Fannings house was burned down and Fanning was run out of town. During the American Revolution Fanning maintained his loyalty to the Crown and after the war settled in Nova Scotia. This Saturday, Fanning and other Spirits of Hillsborough will return for the annual tour.
