Edo Govt Reiterates Commitment To Reduce Cancer Spread GOVERNOR Adams Oshiomhole of Edo has reiterated the commitment of his administration to reduce the spread of cancer through its cancer control programme. Oshiomhole said this at the 2nd Scientific Conference of the Association of Resident Doctors, Edo State Hospital Management Board, in Benin. Represented by Dr Aihanuwa Eregie, the Commissioner for Health, Oshiomhole said that the cancer control programme would install equipment that would help to reduce the spread of the disease in the state. The governor said that the Ministry of Health had distributed 69 Cryo-therapy machines and accessories to primary and secondary health centres as part of measures to check the spread. He added that mammography machine would be installed at the accident and emergency ward, Central Hospital, Benin. Oshiomhole said that awareness campaign on screening for breast and prostate cancer was on going in the state. He promised that his administration would address the challenges in the health sector with available resources at its disposal. “The renovation of 20 hospitals across the state has been completed or near completion,’’ he said.
