Educate yourselves and your children on disabilities. Teach compassion and love. Not fear and exclusion. Push for Universal Design. Maybe next time you want to complain about someone leaving the barn door open, think maybe the person who left it open didnt quite pick up on the fact there was even a door there at all. #awareness #compassion #ushersyndrome #loveismyreligion I have yet to meet an Usher Syndrome person who isnt downright amazing. Brandon, Mike Walsh, Ryan Thomason, Lorne Marin and of course my wife. I cant describe very well what it is like to live with a person who has Retinitis Pigmentosa or Usher Syndrome. Ive often just said well she has shitty peripheral vision and cant drive so I take her everywhere. Because honestly, not a lot of people would really understand so in the moment I say stuff I think maybe makes people feel more comfortable. I hate that. Ive had people respond a few times I get it, I have kids. I gotta shuttle them everywhere. I assure you, its nothing like that. Which my awesome father-in-law confirmed with me recently. Its nice having support. Rare disorders and diseases are isolating. Im new to the game and am working everyday to get better at how to tell people. So to my Usher friends, Im trying. Megan Kennedy and I are impassioned to create awareness for the disabled everywhere. Darios video is awesome and hilarious. I generally avoid watching videos showing what its like. Im sensitive so it stings a bit. Anyway, I am really good at ducking cabinet doors, dodging elbows and am really good at appearing out of nowhere! Im a f-ing ninja!
