Education Director should apologise to every school governor in RCT July 16, 2014 10:00 AM The Director of Education in RCT, Chris Bradshaw should make an apology to every school governor in RCT following comments at a scrutiny meeting says RCT Welsh Liberal Democrat Campaign Manager Karen Roberts. During an education scrutiny meeting on July 15th discussing the appointment of four extra governors at Coedpenmaen Primary School at a cost of £250 each per day Mr Bradshaw stated that sometimes to get the best you have to pay. Ms Roberts, who has been a school governor for seventeen years, is furious School governors across the country give up many hours of their time voluntarily supporting their local schools. They play a vital role in overseeing budgets, ensuring school standards are kept up, and being a critical friend to the staff. They make difficult decisions with regard to pupil and staff disciplinary matters and are responsible for appointing staff. All that just as a start - many governors also take part in a whole range of school schemes and activities. None of them get paid a penny for the incredible amount of work they do, and they dont ask to be. It is disgraceful, therefore, that the Director of Education, who governors should be able to rely on for help and support, should make such a comment. He obviously has little or no regard for any of us. Mr Bradshaws background is as an accountant not an educationalist and it is blatantly obvious that he is more at home with numbers and statistics than with people and that he has no understanding of the system. Every governor in RCT deserves an apology.
