Education System One day our friends were discussing on the topic of the Education System. My one good friend said one great line : Todays Education system is producing workers. He explained his comment with nice example. Soldiers have to wake up early in the morning and do marching and have to follow the instructors order. In all that, the important thing is to follow the order, so when he is in the battle he only follows the order without thinking. Same thing we can observe in todays education system. If a student is following the instruction than they will get good marks and it shows that they are getting educated. !! Is it true,,?? I say.. No. Let me tell you how Wikipedia is defining the EDUCATION. Education is general sense is a form of learning in which the knowledge, skills and habits of a group of people are transferred from one generation to the next through teaching ,training or research. Education frequently takes place under the guidance of others, but also automatic, Any experience that has a formative effect on the way one thinks, feels, or acts may be considered educational. In the whole definition I am not finding word such as Marks and Performance. You can observe that nowadays people are taking wrong conception of education, especially parents. They are thinking that if children are getting good marks and working for more hours than only they are getting educated. I was attending one function, there two parents were talking about the school and class time. One is telling that my child is spending ten hours for all that & another proudly telling that mine is spending 12 hours. I asked them about their play time or other activities that the child engaged within. They told me that it is the time of competition. You cant waste time !! I was shocked. One thing is clear their children are studying but not getting educated. They are killing their childhood. Here I would like to tell you what happens nowadays to the student in the school.: 1) Students need to complete notebooks, assignments and projects that are nothing but copy-pastes from the internet. They have merely completed as a formality for scoring those marks. Whats the use of such things in schools when we learn nothing from them? 2) The exams can be good at testing problem solving abilities, but has two defects- first is the marking system (It doesnt point where the student lacks behind, it just tells the score. And these scores sometimes threaten students self worth) and the second is that they dont teach us much about how to apply knowledge in practical situations. Exams could do with some real life scenarios and asking the student to solve/study them on the spot. 3) The extra curricular activities are imposed as formalities too. Students are made to dance/sing just because they can obey instructions of the teacher who sets the program. Ive never seen someone dance or sing or even speak with true emotions on my school stage. They appear like trained parrots and machines instead. Students need to be given freedom to choose their own extra curricular activities AND what they do with that talent. Teachers cant decide such things; it takes away students freedom. I am observing that in college the same orders are in place. If you are following the orders then you will score well in examination and you are able to sit in placement interview. Yes of-course every company needs worker!!! And it is presumed a good scorer will be a good worker as they are following the instruction of university and getting good scores. If you were to visit college during submission time, you would find that everyone is copying from each other. Even notice board is filled with instruction like, to submit your assignment till this weekend all that…blah…blah. It’s of no use. Trying to produce workers by making them follow the instruction. We are following only the first step of education is teaching. But a lack in training and research. Education system lays more stress on studies. It is an exam system not an education system. Why is it so that we can remember the movies and not our chapters?
