Education is my passion and I believe that there are low hanging fruits in terms of education. It is not difficult to combine the fact that weve got an urgent need for infrastructure in so many schools in the Eastern Cape. Imagine we had a system where experienced construction companies are working with locals to be able to build simple toilets, laboratories, libraries and additional classrooms - that immediately creates economic activity in those areas, then get the young people from those areas who are walking aimlessly because there is nothing to do (they can get trained as artisans, plumbers and carpenters.) On a larger scale we have a country that is spending more than R230 billion every year on education - what we need to do is to plug the leaks. A significant part of this goes into textbooks, Why do we need textbooks in the 21st century? when what we need is to get broadband to every school, which is another form of job creation. Get rid of textbooks and give children tablets. - Mamphela Ramphele #ZwakalaBeHeard
