Educators with the Selah School District violated the federal - TopicsExpress

Educators with the Selah School District violated the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) when they denied an autistic student “free appropriate public education” by the way they handled the student’s expulsion last fall, according to a recent administrative ruling. As a result, the school district must provide the student 171 hours of compensatory education — paid for by Selah — plus any additional hours that may be needed as both sides determine the next steps in the case. The cost of the compensatory education has not been estimated. Selah officials and their attorney have declined to comment on the case, citing privacy laws. The decision can be appealed to state or federal court.
