Edumarshals Told To Promote Learning Culture By Sunday Egede/Scholar Ossai THE Executive Assistant to Delta State governor on Education Matters, Stella Blaize has called on the newly recruited Education Marshals (EduMarshals) in the state to key into the state government’s policy of promoting learning culture by eradicating street culture. Blaize, who made the call yesterday in Asaba during a training programme organised for the 80 graduates that were recently engaged by the state government as EduMarshals, urged them to be passionately committed in the discharge of their duties. she admonished them saying, “You should be passionately committed to your duties in order to actualise and sustain the state government’s drive aimed at providing children of school age in the state, unfettered access to education”. According to her, as far as the Delta State Government is concerned, every child of school age is important, adding that it was as a result of the importance that the state government attaches to the education of the child that the EduMarshals policy was initiated by Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan in September, last year. While congratulating them on their engagement as Education Marshals by the state government, Blaize charged them to do what is expected of them as EduMarshals, pointing out that anyone of them who works contrary to the policy of Education Marshals in the state would be shown the way out of the system. In his presentation during the training, a consultant from the state Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Asaba, Mr. Ernest Ossai who spoke on the “Overview of the School System-Process and Management” said that the child has to go to school to be educated and transformed in order to make the society a better place for all to live. Also speaking during the ceremony, the Special Adviser to Governor Uduaghan on Legal Matters, Barr. Andrew Odum who spoke on the “Perspective of Child Rights Law” in the Implementation of Delta State Education Marshals said that EduMarshals are administrators and enforcers of the compulsory aspect of the education component of the Child Rights Law, adding that every child has the right to free, compulsory and universal basic education. Odum, who quoted the relevant sections of the Child Rights Law disclosed that the state government was extending the operational activities of EduMarshals to the villages, adding the newly engaged Education Marshals should justify the confidence reposed in them by helping to replace street culture with learning culture in the discharge of their duties.
