Edutopia on what influences student achievement...The most - TopicsExpress

Edutopia on what influences student achievement...The most significant variable is socioeconomic status...Anyone working in schools in the urban core can attest to this truth. Note that the most influential variable is NOT race, language or religion. Something to ponder: why then as a society do we spend so much time being outraged about those 3 variables I listed when we SHOULD be outraged that there are people living in dire conditions: children who own one set of clothing, shoes with holes, children who never get enough to eat, children living in food deserts where there are no fresh fruits and veggies available, parents literally starving from not eating so their kids an have what little is available, people with limited access to quality education, children living in hovels that should be condemned, people condemned to live in unsafe areas with kids right next door to gang activity, rapists, murderers...now thats something to spend time on to me as opposed to standing high up on a pedestal yelling that everyone should speak only English or practice only one religion or be only one privileged skin tone
