Edward Elgars Cello Concerto in E minor op. 85 Andreas Brantelid - DR SymfoniOrkestret - James Gaffigan The cello he plays here is a Giovanni Grancino (1637-1709) The bow (not this) Andreas bought shortly after this concert using some of the prize-money has also a history, but in short the french bowmaker François Turtaut build it. It is made of pernambuco wood in the beginning of the 19. century. (1800-1820) I have later come over an interview with Andreas Brantelid where he tells the origin of the Stradivarius cello he uses since about 2012. It belongs to a rich businessman who offered the Norwegian celloist Truls Mørk the cello as a loan. Truls is a very large person and the cello did not fit his way of playing. Therefore he arranged with the owner that Andreas could take over this beautiful instrument. It is built in 1707 and has only been played at for 30 years: from 1908 to 1938 so it still sounds quite new. youtu.be/HQwXY-rXB_c
