Edward Hoyt Civil War Diary New York January 10, 1865 Rainy again this morning and a dull stormy day and is raining again tonight – no news of importance no mail no tidings from home yet. I fear I shall get homesick if I dont hear from my dear ones it seems a long time of absence ‘tis so. January 11, 1865 A very clear and pleasant day with a cold raw northwest wind – nothing new or strange today – no mail yet and dull times generally – I draw some clothes today – pants and blouse. January 12, 1865 Clear and beautiful morning for winter time – the sun rose in majestic splendor to meet the great orb of night and they were found laughing each other in the face - bright and smiling faces delightful to behold they were both on their proper journey and I have not yet heard that they have overtaken each other or even reached speaking distance – the morning boat has come but no letter for me – no tidings from home yet – how it still lingers.
