Performance Health, manufacturer and marketer of Biofreeze®, Bon Vital’®, Prossage®, TheraBand™, Cramer® and Thera°Pearl® health and wellness products, honors individuals annually in the massage therapy industry for their efforts in improving the welfare of their clients and demonstrating selfless devotion to others. This is the 10th year Performance Health and the FSMTA have presented this award. “Massage therapy is truly a profession of big hearts and bright lights that strengthen people through love, service and the power of touch,” said Marshall Dahneke, president and CEO of Performance Health, who had the honor of presenting the award to Hooper. “Eddie is a poster child for big hearts and generosity. He lends a helping hand to others, especially to those dealing with a debilitating disease once viewed as a certain death sentence. And although we’ve not yet found a cure for AIDS, there are now more people living with HIV/AIDS than any other time in the epidemic’s history. This is made possible because of individuals like Eddie and the advances in medical care. He has served as a committed and consistent advocate, supporting the needs of this growing community for over two decades.” Hooper has dedicated his practice to working with the HIV population. His client base is at least 85 percent Persons Living with AIDS (PLWA). Since 1999, he has worked with the Medicaid program Project Aids Cares (PAC) by providing massage therapy to PLWA’s in their homes. He also provides chair massages each month to persons participating in the Health PWA Program sponsored by Trinity Charities, Inc. Hooper has also served on the board for several AIDS organizations and currently serves as a chapter president of the FSMTA. He created and directed the HIV/AIDs massage therapy program at AIDS Manasota, Inc., where he served on the board of directors as the president for two and a half years and on the board for seven years. In addition to his practice, Hooper is an educator at the Sarasota School of Massage. “It has been my privilege to serve a population that truly needs the human touch and caring over these many years,” Hooper said. “I do believe that my ‘presence’ in their lives makes a difference. I am very grateful to Performance Health and the FSMTA for recognizing these contributions and helping bring attention back to the fact that HIV/AIDS is not cured. We have a long way to go. I am also grateful to Performance Health for their $1,000 donation to Trinity Charities in my name. It will benefit a number of Persons Living With AIDS.” Leiah J. Carr, executive state president of FSMTA, offered her congratulations. “Edwin demonstrates compassion and kindness through his massage therapy service and active volunteer service. He is a leader and role model for others in the massage therapy field,” Carr said. “Edwin has proven that one person can truly make a difference. FSMTA is delighted that he is the recipient of this year’s Humanitarian award. As the FSMTA celebrates its 75th Diamond Anniversary, Edwin is clearly a diamond shining bright in his service to others.” About Trinity Charities, Inc.
