Edwin Terrence ORooney Journal entry for 15th of December 1898 I saw it again! I saw it skitter across the wall and hide behind the bookcase in the study. At first I thought it was just a passing reflection of a carriage lamp but this time we locked eyes. It has become a strange mix of relief and real fear. I thought I was paranoid and seeing things. I have heard it behind me and just missed seeing its movements directly. I was worried honestly for my sanity but now I am sure! The other day I was convinced I had felt at a tug on my pant leg and when I turned I saw but a shadow move. Now I know and I fear that this thing is malevolent. I have taken to staying in the parlor with a goodly fire banked for the eve. My days are a long arduous yawn after another as I have not had a good night sleep in a week. My co-workers worry I am ill and have begun to stay away. I do not blame them for the shunning, for my mood is as dark as the circles ringing my lids. I feel the prisoner in my own household, yet I feel I dare not speak of this to another, in fear of them questioning my sanity as I had done my very self. So I have decided to chronicle my ordeal as warning or explanation I am not sure.
