Eek! The sheer number of my friends who posted this morning that they had sick kids at home has me scrambling to put together some resources. Id like to do a full post on this but for now, this will have to do. Heres what we do when we see an illness headed our way: 1) Cod Liver Oil (Carlsons Lemon Flavor is wonderful in smoothies or in vanilla or plain yogurt. You can get it at Health Hut in Brookfield. Green Pastures Fermented CLO is even better but you have to order it online). Its got lots of natural Vitamin D...critical in fighting illness. 2) Garlic - has antifungal, antiviral, and antibacterial properties, among other things...we put it in everything from eggs & soup to hash & guacamole...wherever I can fit it in. 3) Coconut Oil - has antifungal, antiviral, and antibacterial properties, among other things. Spread it on toast, add it to food or smoothies, saute veggies in it. Again, we put it wherever we can. 4) Beets - liver cleaning food so your liver can do the extra work it needs to when you are fighting allergies and/or illness 5) Bone broth - boil bones / meaty bones for up to 36 hours. Can put veggies in there too. Basically until the bones crumble...then you know you have gotten all the goodness out of them! Drink like this, or add veggies / meat to make thicker soup! There is a reason your grandma made chicken noodle soup when you were sick. Just skip the stuff in the can. 6) Grass fed gelatin - like bone broth, source of collagen for gut healing!! 7) Probiotics - Let the good bacteria fight off the bad stuff. 8) Lemon - another liver cleansing food to allow your body to function. Just squirt some in water...hot or cold. 9) Raw honey - has antifungal, antiviral, and antibacterial properties, among other things. However, use sparingly because of #10... 10) Reduce or eliminate sugar and sugar sources (plain sugar and sweeteners, dairy, useless carbs). Sugar feeds bacteria. You eliminate the food source and it dies. 11) Visit your chiro. It may not HEAL you but it will make sure the platform is clear for the show!! 12) Sleep!!! Friends...so much good stuff happens when you sleep. 13) Ride the fever out, but keep an eye on it. Your body is working hard to fight off the infection...stay out of its way! 14) Essential oils...Thieves, frankincense, peppermint. Do your own research on these and how to use them. But these are 3 we now use for times of illness or fighting off illness. 15) Stay hydrated. Water (with lemon!), warm tea (with ginger and/or lemon!), kombucha (a probiotic)...the are all great for hydration. Steer clear of fruit juices (unnecessary sugar) and Gatorade type drinks (unless you make them yourself without all the crap). Folks, this is not a complete list...but it is our list. I will post a couple other resources in the comments. Is it a lot? Written out it looks like it. But if for breakfast the kids get scrambled eggs (or cubed sweet potatoes) with veggies, coconut oil and garlic, and a smoothie with CLO, beets, gelatin and some probiotics, I got 6 of our things in 1 meal. I hope you all feel better fast!! And note, you can add all the things into your regular routine to STAY healthy. Thats even better then doing it when you get sick!!
