Efterklangs Piramida was hugely inspiring to us in terms of what location recording gives to an album. And now, post-KNOTS weve found this man, Dan Lyth (cheers, Andrew Ridley Photography for the tip off): hes taken it to the next level. His latest record, Bethnic Lines, was recorded entirely outdoors. Watch a trailer here: benthiclines/. I defy you to not want to hear more after seeing the effort and heart put into its conception. And the CD comes with a book including the GPS co-ordinates for every track. Genius. Mr Lyth, we salute you, sir. Stunning work. And this quote is so reminiscent of how we felt a bout Allenheads and KNOTS, and Im sure Liam Gaughan [ Production / Performance / Tuition ] will agree with some of it... “After travelling, listening, recording and being constantly surprised over the course of four years and across four continents, what will really stay with me is not only all the wonderful sounds we heard (during the recording of Benthic Lines) but also the many inquisitive, open-minded and generous people we met along the way. But it wasn’t all romantic. It’s quite hard work transporting a drum kit to a remote derelict church or dragging a piano out of a small flat. There were broken mic stands, bleeding fingers and failing batteries. And there was rain, a lot of rain.”
