Egalitarianism would ONLY work if everyone were equal. But we are NOT. Those are the cold hard facts and it doesnt pay to ignore them. A manipulated level playing field destroys the natural order of evolution. We have evolved sociologically sufficient to help others that may need it. This is a part of our evolution, an important part, because while it is in out nature (for all but sociopaths) to nurture our fellows, it cant be forced. While this nurturing may seem altruistic, it manifests purely for the reason that helping our fellows is, in the long run, very self-serving indeed. Strength in numbers. We all have that logic in our genetic code. Now...what the proponents of egalitarianism, the Left, liberals, Democrats, call them what you like, fail to understand, and why socialism and communism always fails, is that in order for our altruistic nature to properly function, we have to be allowed to employ it in our OWN level and fashion. Therefore, when authority dictates what and how much we must give to LEVEL the playing field, there is resentment, whether conscious or subconscious, realized or not. Humans can and WILL nurture their fellows if allowed to do so in their own rite and fashion, but once the state steps in, everything goes to hell under the oppressive nature of the law. It doesnt help matters that the state keeps coming up with endless reasons that we have to keep shoveling more and more money into the program, just so they can siphon and embezzle from the coffers.
