Eh, what the hell. Heres some more new music. Sleater-Kinney have been kicking around since 1994. Technically, theyve been on hiatus since 2007, but they finally decided to put out new material. The most recognizable of the trio, Carrie Brownstein, has had a recent successful run on television with Portlandia, so I guess it was time to strike while the iron was hot. Portlandia is more or less geared towards people in their 30s and 40s, and Sleater Kinney fits right in with that age group now. Those former college kids in the 90s have grown up, but it doesnt mean that theyve stopped buying music. At least not all of them. True to Portlandian form, Brownstein and the ladies have enlisted an army of celebrities to rally to their cause. Today they just released a video for the title track of their new album, No Cities To Love. While Sleater-Kinney can be heard (slightly), the video is of their famous friends singing along to the song. Are you ready for this list of celebs? Fred Armisen, Gerard Way, Brie Larson, Natasha Lyonne, Evan Rachel Wood, Sarah Silverman, J Mascis, Vanessa Bayer, Miranda July, Norman Reedus, Connie Britton and Ellen Page. I may have missed someone, but Im not sure. At this point, Im surprised that Jon Hamm didnt show up too. If youre excited about Sleater-Kinneys return, the new album will be out Jan. 20th.
