Eid al-Adha, also called the Feast of Sacrifice, the Festival, the Great Eid Kurban Bayram al-Bakr Eid and Bakrid is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims and Druze worldwide to honor the will of the prophet ? Ibrahim to sacrifice his firstborn son Ismael young to be an act of submission to God’s command and the acceptance of his son to be sacrificed, before God intervened to provide Abraham with a lamb to sacrifice instead. In the Islamic lunar calendar, Eid al-Adha falls on the tenth day of Dhu al- Hijjah and lasts four days. In the international Gregorian calendar, the dates vary from year to year, drifting approximately 11 days earlier each year. Eid al-Adha is the latter of two Eid holidays, the first Eid al-Fitr. The basis for the Eid al-Adha comes from verse 196 of the second sura of the Qur’an. The word “Eid” appears once in the fifth sura of the Qur’an with the meaning “feast.” As Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha begins with a Sunnah prayer of two units followed by a sermon. Celebrations of Eid al-Adha begin after the descent of the pilgrimage from Mount Arafat, a hill east of Mecca. Ritual observance of the holiday lasts until sunset of the 12th day of Dhu al-Hijjah. Eid sacrifice can be done until sunset on the 13th of Dhu al-Hijjah. The days of Eid have been reported in the Hadith as “Day of Remembrance”. The days are Tashriq Fajr 9 Dhul Hijjah until evening prayer 13 Dhul Hijjah. This equates to 23 sentences: 5 at the 9 to 12, which equals 20 and 3 on the 13th.
